In introducing yourself, start by greeting or by saying "Hei or Hallo" followed by "Jeg heter" and then your name. Don't forget to tell them how pleasant you are to meet them by adding, "Hyggelig å møte deg" or "Hyggelig".
Take a closer look with two translation presented below:
You can state your full name in formal gatherings or settings, and you can just use your first name in meeting your new friends.
The first greeting (in the picture) expresses a more formal introduction, and you can use it by introducing yourself at your new work or any formal context. While the second example is an alternative way of introducing yourself, which can be used in any informal setting or meeting new friends.
Quick tip: In Norway, when you introduce yourself its a good habit to offer and shake your hands with the person in front of you. While "Hyggelig å møte deg" can be used in much formal introduction than "Hyggelig". However, you don't need to stress yourself in which of the two can be used, because if you use one of the sentences with Norwegian people they will definitely going to be impressed.
